What is an FCE?
Functional Capacity Evaluation Test
A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive battery of performance-based tests that are commonly used to determine a person’s capacity to work on a competitive basis, their current level of functioning and/or their residual functional abilities. Measurements of function from an FCE can also be used to make return-to-work or activity decisions, disability determinations, or to design rehabilitation plans. An FCE measures the ability of an individual to perform functional or work-related tasks. It also predicts the potential to sustain these tasks over a defined time frame. The results support tertiary prevention by removing needless disability or activity restrictions.
