FCE Training and Obtaining Certification

How Long Does FCE Training Take?

If your practice or organization is thinking about expanding its resources to provide Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs), you are probably factoring in how many man-hours it will take to complete FCE training and get a staff member up to standard.

The answer is, if you are a medical professional, you most likely are already prepared to administer an FCE. In fact, a variety of medical professionals can perform the FCE, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, physician assistants and exercise physiologists.

FCE Training: Overcomplicated and Overpriced

The FCE is easy to perform but sometimes hard to understand. All measurements are standard procedures, and clinicians perform these procedures on a regular basis. Each work task is also clearly illustrated and outlined so that the clinician can easily refer to them while conducting the test. Although the FCE does not require a certification, most practices and practitioners will opt to become certified. However, you should check with your state’s board for the specific requirements.

If you are a medical professional, you most likely are already prepared to administer an FCE.

Believe it or not, however, it is in the best interests of many traditional FCE vendors and software companies to make the FCE seem as complicated as possible. They make the bulk of their money by convincing clinicians to buy into multi-day training sessions. This creates an inefficiency in the industry that is not in favor of the administering professional. There’s no incentive to make the FCE software easy to use. In fact, it’s better to keep it unnecessarily complicated so as to keep those expensive training sessions full.

The WebFCE Solution

WebFCE was founded by physical therapists who were frustrated with FCE software ourselves. We wanted a straightforward, effective solution and, when no one else could, we decided to fill it ourselves. As such, it’s been our mission from day one to provide truly efficient, comprehensive, common-sense FCE software.

We designed WebFCE both for healthcare professionals considering implementing FCEs as part of their practice, and for those who are already performing them. Our software program is HIPAA-compliant and entirely web-based. Peer-reviewed research shows it demonstrates excellent face and content validity as well as construct validity and reliability.

Additionally, WebFCE examines all peer-reviewed literature on Functional Capacity Evaluations on a regular basis to ensure we remain on the cutting edge of FCE performance.

Perform FCEs in as Little as One Day

In keeping with our promise of simplicity, our FCE software is easy to learn. There are NO expensive, multi-day learning requirements. It’s possible to begin performing FCEs in as little as one day!
